PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME - TRAINING, MENTORING AND SERVICE DESIGN
We have developed an in-depth knowledge of service design and delivery for people with Prader-Willi Syndrome. We will collaborate with you and your supports to design a service model, that is focused on achieving a specific goal, or alternatively, develop a comprehensive model to support your lifelong goals.
We have developed a comprehensive training package, which can be tailored to your specific needs. In addition, we can provide mentoring to families, support workers and service providers.
SOCIAL & RECREATION
Engaging in social and recreational activities can provide numerous benefits, including developing social skills, improving problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Strengthening your planning and organizational skills while increasing your independence and self-confidence.
Tailoring social and recreation services to your interests wants and needs means that we will take into account your unique abilities and preferences when planning activities and events. This means that we will work with you to understand what you enjoy doing, what your goals are, and what support may be required to enable you to participate in your chosen activities.
Prader-Willi Social Night – safe social events designed and delivered to meet the specific needs of people living with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION
As children transition into adulthood, they typically engage in activities such as sleepovers, managing money, making plans and spending time with peers, all of which reflect their growing independence.
Developing independence beyond the family home is an significant milestone, and our short term accommodation offers a valuable opportunity to cultivate essential life skills.
TRANSITION TO POST SCHOOL OPTIONS
By engaging in volunteer work, work experience, and part-time employment in the early teenage years, you can acquire valuable skills to successfully prepare for post-school options.
Our aim is to work with you to identify your interests, goals and aspirations. We will collaborate with your support network which encompasses individuals who hold significance in your life, and your community, as well as informal and formal support to identify any assistance you may need to take part in various post-school transitional opportunities.
These opportunities may involve pursuing further education, enhancing independence and abilities like Travel Training, discovering volunteer positions in the community, acquiring essential skills for job seeking, and ultimately, exploring career options.
TRANSITION INTO HOME
Taking steps towards moving out of the family home and independent living is daunting for everyone.
We support young adults with a disability on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to learn all that is involved in living outside the family home. We will work with you and we will collaborate with your support network which encompasses individuals who hold significance in your life, and your community, as well as informal and formal supports to identify your strengths and goals to develop your independence before you move out independently. This may include self-care (hygiene, grooming, exercise), menu planning and preparation, domestic tasks and life skills such as household budgeting and developing a routine.
